Ling. Reconstruction fautive d'une forme linguistique produisant une forme supposée correcte. Par ext. Le fait de produire des formes linguistiques anormales ou fautives par souci de manifester une maîtrise du discours signalant un statut social valorisé.

hypercorrection nom féminin Phénomène consistant à reconstruire de manière erronée un mot en lui restituant un élément qu'on croit disparu. (C'est par hypercorrection que savoir, issu du latin sapere, fut au XVIe s. orthographié sçavoir, car on le supposait issu de scire.)
